Candid and Can Do
With a staff of some 1600, civil construction business Higgins, need a fast, reliable supplier when it comes to personal protective equipment (PPE).
So when John Jessop came on board as Health, Safety, Quality and Environment Adviser, he was delighted to find one of his favourite PPE suppliers, Leedsafe, were already working with Higgins.
Jessop had first come across Leedsafe the previous year when he was a Health & Safety Adviser working on some large-scale projects in Christchurch, including the Justice Precinct. They were having some problems with their PPE supplier with equipment turning up late and, on occasion, getting lost on site. John got hold of Clayton at Leedsafe and they stepped into help. John was impressed with the quality of the products; the timely deliveries and the flexibility of online and telephone orders – all of which combined to make his life as a customer easy. So he was more than happy to continue buying from them at Higgins.
He also enjoys the friendliness of the Leedsafe staff and the small things that make a difference – like a welcoming smile or greeting. “If I say I want to come and pick something up, the girls all know who I am and are smiling and friendly” he explains.
And on the rare occasions when an issue occurs, it is the honesty and upfront manner of Clayton and his team that impress.
“Sometimes I will say ‘do you guys have this?’. If they don’t they will try to source it, but if they can’t they’ll be up front and say ‘sorry, we can’t’” says John, “Likewise with time frame, if a particular item is going to take two days to get on site, they just tell me rather than taking the order and leaving me to wait. That way if a staff member comes to me and says ‘hey where’s my…’, I can say ‘it’ll be here in today’. I like that candidness and it makes my life easier”.
